We conducted the 11th Annual PowerFAIDS User Conference on
July 3 & 4. It was our largest conference ever with 303
attendees from over 175 institutions. This years conference
was devoted to New PowerFAIDS (which debuted in November
2005) and offered exposure to a top-notch network of
PowerFAIDS users willing to share successes.
We sincerely appreciate the time and effort of our
PowerFAIDS users and partners who presented at the
conference. Their hard work and assistance are what truly
make this conference a success. We are also grateful to
NASFAA which helped us secure our conference facilities.
Conference Overview
At the opening session we highlighted our increased support
of New PowerFAIDS. We’ve added an extra position to our
support team as well as four external support resources to
better manage the anticipated increase in support volume.
We’ve more then doubled our Free Online Training Sessions,
and added new resources to our web site including self-help
tutorials, a transition checklist and other transition
materials. Transition Training will continue throughout the
fall.
Over the course of two days, financial aid professionals
chose from over 34 interest sessions. In addition to
sessions focusing on Transitioning to New PowerFAIDS and Net
Partner, we also offered: an update on the Department of
Education’s Advance system and HERA related information from
Jim McMahon of USDE, and two sessions designed to help users
create new approaches when resolving old problems by getting
“a Whack on the Side of the Head” with Daniel Barkowitz of
MIT. We were thrilled with the responses to all the interest
sessions.
School Sprit Days
School Spirit Day was another opportunity for us to have fun
and enjoy ourselves during the conference. Congratulations
to Sandy Pittenger and Nick Zinser for winning the School
Spirit Day contest. We encourage all conference attendees to
join in the fun next year and wear clothing advertising your
school. We look forward to your participation and elaborate
spirit next year.
